WHO CREATED THE INTERPUS NETWORK...

The creator of The Interpus Network is Anthony Shanaka Peiris. That's me! Click here to read about me. I began working on the site during sometime around April and August of the year 2000. During those days, I had just immigrated to Canada from my country and I literally knew little or nothing about using a computer. However, since I had always had the dream of having a simple site online to show off to my friends, I started training myself all of what I needed to know to build one.

My first site was established on the free web host, xoom.com (which is no longer in service by the way). It was a really crappy page with some silly graphics, but at the time, it seemed really awesome to me. Specially because I had built it all by myself (without using xoom's easy editor. The so called easy editor was even harder to understand than HTML coding itself).

Later on, I moved from one free host to another building even more crappy web sites. Pretty soon, I had learned quite a lot about building web sites and coding HTML, so I decided that I should put that knowledge into some good use.

My first decision for the site was what its content was going to be based on. I figured that if I ever wanted the site to be useful to anyone, it should at least be useful to me to begin with, therefore I based the site on the kind of site I always wished existed on the web: A site that enabled the user to easily find what he/she is looking for without opening more than one browser window to do it. A kind of site that would enable the user to log-on to Yahoo Mail and MSN Hotmail from the same page.

Unfortunately, this idea didn't work too well at first. Having to make other sites available on my site was becoming quite problematic considering my newbie knowledge of web design I did not give up yet however. Neither did I abandon this strategy. This site, compared to my previous works was quite impressive. I even had a really cool logo just for the site.  For about three months, the site lived happily on a host called crosswonds.net (also no longer in service). So I guess this is where it all started. I called this site, The Shanaka Web.

A few months later, I completely redesigned the site. It certainly took quite a while to finish, but this time I had done it. The site was better than anything I had ever build before. This time, it was better than some professional sites even. This is where the name TSW Network took flight. TSW stands for The Shanaka Web. This is the site that existed preceding the one that exists now. Click Here to see what the old site looked like. The only problems with this site was that, although it looked really good, it was really slow, incompatible with several other browsers, and difficult to update. That's why an year later (in April 2002), I decided to create a new site that would solve all those problems found on the old site. I can't forget the fact however, about how well the old site did. I received over 250 members and more than 500000 unique visitors from around the world during its time.

Well, that brings us to the site we have today. The Interpus Network. Interpus was a name used to describe my site even in the days of the old site. It was a word that had just popped into my head from nowhere. Since my site had really grown up, I figured that It could use a more unique and professional name. Interpus was my first choice.

The new site has overcome all those difficulties I described earlier about the old site. Lets wait and see if it will do as well as it's preceding version and keep the idea of having everything on the same site alive. after all, that's what brought us here. -
